Simple Lines Let Yarns Shine
Summer is a great time to knit easy shapes that skim the body, and there is a timeless elegance to clean silhouettes that highlight a beautiful yarn. Strike the perfect balance between polished and casual with Nina, a yummy worsted-weight cotton/linen blend from S. Charles Collezione.
Whether you’re an experienced knitter looking for a project to travel with, or a new knitter stretching your skills, you’ll enjoy the beautiful drape of the Donna Poncho Top by Teresa Chorzepa, our featured project this week. The hardest part will be choosing colors! Save 10% on Nina now until Wednesday, June 8–and the Donna Poncho pattern is free with your purchase. Also worth a look: Stonecrop Top by Roberta Platt.
Next Week’s Catch: Bergere de France Magic+
Babies are always in season, so you might as well be prepared for the next one! Baby Sophisticate by Linden Down is a popular free pattern for baby boys; ultra easy-care Bergere de France Magic+ makes your favorite mini-man look sharp with no fuss at laundry time. I found a delightful pattern for baby girls, Gilet Noeud Noeud by Sophie Missgraindesel–also free, though the instructions are a bit minimal. Or maybe you know a high school grad headed to a cold climate in the fall? Jen Geigley’s GAP-tastic Cowl is simple and contemporary. Magic+ will be 10% off Thursday, June 9 – Wednesday, June 15.
Look for a new fast and fabulous project, plus an accompanying sale yarn, every week starting on Thursdays. Please remember that the Los Altos Farmers Market rolls onto State Street on Thursday afternoons–park carefully and enjoy the fresh produce!
Classes are still in session at Uncommon Threads over the summer, and I’m especially thrilled to welcome our newest teacher, Sara Jessen. Sara is offering a Summer Sweater for Beginners class starting Friday, June 17, featuring the Vivo Tee by Rosemary Drysdale. Knit in pieces from the bottom up with Filatura di Crosa Tempo or another soft worsted yarn, the Vivo Tee is a beautiful introduction to basic sweater construction.
Sara will also be teaching a drop-in Knit Club for kids aged 8 – 12 on Thursday mornings, starting June 16. All levels are welcome, and Sara will have plenty of ideas to keep your kids happy and computer-free… for a while, anyway. And because toys are not just for kids, Laura’s Woven Scarf class is back this Sunday, June 5 and June 26. She’ll take you through all the steps to create a one-of-a-kind scarf on your rigid heddle loom. Beginners welcome!
