Handmade in a Hurry with Gorgeous Chunkies

When you need a fast yarn fix, chunky yarns are a quick and cozy solution. We’ve all been there: one more teacher gift, a last-minute party, an unexpected trip to cold weather, or just an insatiable urge to get your hands on some yarn and finish in a day or two. These hefty yarns have the same beautiful variety of color and texture as their skinnier shelfmates, so you can truly indulge yourself in some instant gratification!

Short and Sumptuous

A snuggly cowl feels utterly luxurious in our softest chunky alpacas and merinos. From simple stitch patterns (Lucinda Cowl) to drop stitches (Drop Stitch Cowl by Abi Gregorio) and cushy cables (Broome by Vanessa Putt and Double Cabled Cowl by Sweaterbabe), there’s a perfect cowl pattern waiting for you.

Long and Lovely

More is definitely more with a scarf or cowl long enough to wrap cozily around your neck. Humble seed stitch makes a big statement in the GAP-tastic Cowl by Jen Geigley; for more adventurous stitch patterns, try the Diagonal Rib Knit Scarf by Alicia Fleitas, Rumba by Lisa Richardson or Martin Storey’s Lace Cable Scarf.

Delightfully Different

Shake up your cowl-and-scarf routine with a pair of quick-knit fingerless mitts (Davitt) or homey socks (Corker by Brenda York), both in Berroco Inca Tweed.

And because I like to have something a bit wacky in our yarn mix, check out Feza Candy Deluxe–the felted yarn balls are a wonderful touch of whimsy on the Candy Scarf by Figen Vardar, or even a baby blanket.
